The latest Field Poll finds nearly 60 percent of Californians think the United States should house unaccompanied children who are crossing into the country illegally.
The poll found 58 percent of California voters favored providing shelter and support to the immigrant children, many of whom are from Central America and crossed into the United States by themselves. 33 percent of voters say the children should be deported immediately. A majority of Democrats and those with no party preference support keeping the children in the United States temporarily. Most Republicans surveyed support deporting the children.
Fifty five percent of voters say President Barrack Obama should take executive action to deal with the children if Congress fails to act. Of those, 74 percent are Democrats and 54 percent have no party preference. 65 percent of Republicans believe the president should not act alone.
