California State Democratic Senator Rod Wright has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and three years probation. He was convicted of perjury in January for lying about his residence. Wright, who represented Inglewood, was also ordered to complete 1,500 hours of community service.
Senate President Darrel Steinberg has issued a statement calling on Wright to resign. Steinberg says Wright has the right to appeal but that his constituents cannot continue without representation in the state Senate.
Wright was suspended from the Senate last spring, along with fellow Democratic Senators Leland Yee and Rod Calderon. Yee and Calderon are also facing charges in separate cases.
