Sacramento Republic FC announced this Wednesday afternoon it has taken steps to acquire property at the Railyards for a planned soccer stadium. The urban infill project is south of the River District and north of downtown Sacramento.
Officials from the professional Major League Soccer or MLS, plan to visit Sacramento tomorrow and Friday to evaluate the city's potential for an expansion franchise.
The Club released drawings of the planned stadium and said Railyards developer Larry Kelley will join Republic FC's management group if the MLS grants the Club expansion rights.
Sacramento Republic FC is an expansion franchise of USL PRO. The club launched its inaugural season last March and plays its home matches at the 8,000-seat Bonney Field.
