The Sacramento River Cats are the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants beginning next season.
The River Cats have been the Oakland A's farm team for 15 years.
Mark Ling is with the River Cats.
"We've heard over the last 15 years that the majority of fans in this area are Giants fans," says Ling.
CSN Bay Area Sports Business Insider Andy Dolich is a former Oakland A's executive. He's known for his creative marketing campaigns during 15 years with the A's. Dolich says affiliating with the Giants is a good move for the River Cats.
"They want to maximize their investment, they want as many people to come to their games as they can," says Dolich. "And clearly, over the last few years, the Giants have been much more proactive than the A's in marketing their product."
The Giants farm team was previously in Fresno.
Dolich says losing the River Cats affiliation is "a significant loss" for the A's.
Earlier Thursday, the Oakland A's announced a deal to affiliate with a Nashville Triple-A club.
