Elections officials say it always happens. They get a huge surge in last minute registrations.
Voters can register online until midnight or have their registration postmarked October 20.
Nicole Winger with the Secretary of State’s office says they typically see more voter registration for the general election compared to the primary.
“We are seeing a surge in interest more people requesting information, voter materials, a lot more calls coming in to our statewide voter hotline now," says Winger. "That tends to give us an idea of how many people are interested or starting to pay attention.”Only 25-percent of registered voters participated in the primary, a record low turnout.
Winger says a person must re-register to vote after moving, changing names or changing political parties.
County elections officials send voters a notification postcard once a registration is verified.
