(AP) -- California's Department of Motor Vehicles has opened three new temporary outlets as it expects to issue over 1 million licenses to people in the country illegally.
The DMV announced Monday that new offices have opened in Lompoc, Stanton and Granada Hills. Another is set to open in San Jose Dec. 1.
The offices are now accepting driver's license applicants who can verify their legal presence in the U.S. and starting in January will issue licenses under AB60, the bill signed by Gov. Jerry Brown last year. It allows people in the country illegally to obtain driver's licenses with identification from their home countries. The DMV expects to issue an additional 1.4 million licenses within three years.
The DMV has already announced expanded hours because of the new law.
