Almost 70,000 people have applied for coverage through the exchange in the first four days. They’re considered eligible for either private insurance or Medi-Cal.
Covered California Executive Director Peter Lee says thousands of them have taken the process further by picking a health plan.
“You compare that to a year ago, last year, October, it took 15 days to do what we did in four days. We’re seeing Californian’s informed, we’re seeing them ready to sign up.”
Last year about 1.4 million people enrolled, but a small portion of them didn’t pay their first month’s premium. Over a million people in the exchange are now in the renewal process. February 15th is the last day to sign up if you’re buying your own coverage.
