A low pressure system will bring several waves of rain storms to the Sacramento area.
"This is a storm that is actually coming in from the Eastern Pacific," says Tom Dang with the National Weather Service in Sacramento. "It's been hanging out there for a couple of days now and will be finally moving through the area later today and into the weekend."
Dang says the region could get half-an-inch to an inch of rain.
"It's actually pretty typical for this time of year, says Dang. "It feels a little bit odd because we've been in such a dry stretch the last few years that any sort of weather system feels slightly odd and out of place. But it's really pretty usual."
The storm will also bring snow to the Northern Sierra Nevada with six-to-12 inches of snow predicted above six-thousand feet. Dang says there's also a second storm system headed our way.
"Things are setting up for potentially an even wetter system to move through, roughly next Tuesday and Wednesday," says Dang. "We'll probably see a little bit more precipitation with that system than the current one. But it's also going to be a little bit warmer so we may not see as much snow."
Dang says if you're traveling over the Sierra this weekend you should be prepared for winter driving conditions and potential delays.
