Nobody Hurt When 3 Freight Train Cars Derail Near Sacramento

(AP) - Union Pacific officials say nobody was hurt when three cars on a freight train derailed just northeast of Sacramento.

The Sacramento Bee reports the cars went off the tracks as they were leaving an Antelope train yard on their way to Stockton Monday evening.

Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis says one car contained toluene, an organic solvent. Another car carried plastic pellets used in plastic injection molding. The third boxcar was empty.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District determined that the derailment caused no spill of hazardous materials. Metro Fire said it determined there was no threat and turned the investigation of the cause of the derailment over to Union Pacific.

The train was carrying 68 cars. The train yard was briefly evacuated.
