Workers are constructing new exhibits for the Great Valley Museum on the west campus of Modesto Junior College.
There are large dioramas with deer, and hawks.
Museum Director Barry Bauer says the two million dollar project will quadruple the size of the museum.
He says it will include a 30- by 45-foot beaver dam complete with a stream and pond.
"And we will have a beaver specimen as well as a muskrat on the dam itself and many, many other animals, birds, insects, snakes, you name it, positioned throughout the diorama to illustrate their natural setting."
Bauer expects thousands of grade school students to tour the museum when it opens next month.
