Modesto Police say they have arrested four people and seized almost 3,000 prescription pills after a three month investigation.
They say the drug ring used prescription pads stolen from a managed pain clinic to buy drugs such as Oxycodone and Xanax at a local pharmacy.
Heather Graves of the Modesto Police Department says the drug ring was able to obtain as many as 57,000 pills in just a year.
"Yes it is a significant amount, it's something larger than we've seen in quite some time," says Graves.
Graves says the pills sell for between 3 and 40 dollars each on the street and that makes them attractive to some people.
"Maybe teenagers or those with a low income. You know, it is a cheaper price, it's just so easily accessible," says Graves.
Graves says the problem of prescription drugs on the streets is increasing with people even stealing them from bathroom cabinets, often from parents or grandparents.
