Beefing up security and stepping up trash pickups. Those are two short term goals set by the general manager of Sacramento Regional Transit - Mike Wiley. Tonight at the RT Board of Director's meeting, Wiley will present his recommendations for improving service.
"As well as developing an operating plan for the future arena."
The future arena helped trigger these recommendations. Downtown business leaders say people who want to take mass transit to the new arena when it opens next year would likely avoid light rail and buses if they're too dirty or unsafe.
Wiley says he's also looking at joining with other agencies like the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
"They already have people pressure washing, they already have people cleaning up graffiti and cleaning up trash in the areas where our stations are."
Wiley says RT's Board of Directors will next create an ad-hoc committee to consult with business leaders on system changes.
