(AP) - Nearly 50 horses placed in protective custody after being evicted from a private ranch last year are being offered for adoption by El Dorado County Animal Services.
According a statement a total of 91 horses - along with goats, chickens and pigs - were removed from the Grace Foundation property in November after the nonprofit lost its insurance.
State law requires local authorities to impound animals that remain following an eviction. More than 40 horses and all the other livestock have found homes.
Animal Services said this week that 48 remaining horses are available for adoption. The newspaper says the steeds are of various ages and breeds, and many of them have not been ridden or trained.
