The Reno City Council voted to hire an engineering firm to oversee the Virginia Street Bridge Replacement Project.
The historic bridge spans the Truckee River in downtown Reno. It has needed structural and flood-control improvements since massive floods in 1997 and 2005.
The city of Reno will pay the engineering firm over $2.6 million to manage the $21 million bridge replacement project.
The 110-year-old landmark was featured in the 1961 Marilyn Monroe film "The Misfits." It joined the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980.
