E-commerce giants like Amazon, Toys-R-Us, REI and Barnes and Noble all have distribution centers in Reno. When people buy more, cargo deliver goes up. That’s what happened in December. For the month, cargo flights hit an all-time record and for the year, they fell just shy of the record. Vice President of Airport Marketing Brian Kulpin says, if cargo flights continue to increase, the airport will expand.
“It is in our plans, we have targeted that area, we have the road network for it, so if that is the next step that we go if these numbers continue, that would be a nice problem for our community to have.”
Kulpin says income from cargo flights subsidizes the establishment of new passenger routes.
