Brown held a press conference at the White House today during a trip to Washington, DC. He criticized a lawsuit filed by Republican governors and attorneys general to block the president’s executive action on immigration.
Brown says the United States must deal with the millions of undocumented immigrants living in the country.
"The only alternative is either deport, which I find abominable and impractical, or provide some pathway to citizenship or more regularized participation to American society," he says.
The Brown administration has filed a legal brief in support of the president’s plan to provide legal protection to about five million undocumented immigrants.
Brown also said he welcomes Republican governors to visit California so they can see how well the state is doing. The governors of both Texas and Florida have been vocal about luring business away from California.
"The Republicans says don’t deal with climate change, don’t deal with immigrants, don’t do the Affordable Care Act, don’t tax high-income people," he says. "California is doing all of that and we’re prospering."
In fact, Brown says, California is growing faster than the national average.
