The college basketball championships known as March Madness don't start until next week. But for Sacramento hoops fans the madness is already here.
Sacramento State's men's basketball team is having its winningest season ever.
University officials are hoping to harness that momentum to build a larger arena on campus. Right now the team plays in an 1,100 seat facility called the Hornets Nest.
Sac State's Athletic Director Bill Macriss was on Capital Public Radio's Insight today.
"Once the season ends," said Macriss, "we're going to try to focus on capturing that energy and see if we can get the community and the alumni and the boosters and fans to help us make an events center a reality."
The Sac State Hornets are currently sitting 20 and 10. Today at 4:30 pm the team will take on number two seed Eastern Washington in Missoula, Montana.
