New statistics show a big jump in “no party preference” voters in California.
Monday's report from the Secretary of State’s office brings “no party preference” registration to more than 23 percent, thanks to an additional 400,000 Californians are now registered without party preference. That’s a jump of a little under three percent.
Compare that to drops in Democratic and Republican party registration of just under 300,000 or so, slightly less than one percent. For Republicans, that’s a big deal – because their registration is now below 28 percent.
Democrats continue to be the most popular party in California by a wide margin, at 43 percent.
More than a quarter of eligible Californians are not registered to vote at all.
