Tax day is almost here – and California’s Franchise Tax Board is extending its call center and field office hours Tuesday and Wednesday.
That’s because technical difficulties with the state’s call center provider gave many callers busy signals for much of the day Monday.
“We were all cringing yesterday, as we know it’s crunch time for a lot of people, and there’s a lot of demand to get last-minute information,” says the FTB’s Denise Azimi. “But the good news is, I just tested our 800 line this morning, and I got through in about 30 seconds.”
Azimi says the call center will stay open until 9 p.m. through Tax Day, and field offices in several major cities will close at 7 p.m.
As of Tuesday morning, nearly 12 million Californians had filed their returns. The FTB expects four million more to file by April 15.
