A bill moving through the California Legislature would extend Medi-Cal to some undocumented immigrants. At press briefing today Governor Jerry Brown wouldn’t comment directly on whether he supports the measure.
"I will just say, generally, that there are a lot of ideas that often are memorialized in to bills, that when you price them out they exceed the available money," he says.
The program is projected to cost between $400 million and $800 million a year.
Brown has stressed fiscal restraint in the last few years as the state emerged from the recession. He says when making decisions he considers the cost of a program several years into the future.
