Dollar Tree Stores Inc. has been ordered by an Alameda County Superior Court judge to pay $2.7 million to settle an environmental lawsuit. The suit was brought by nearly 50 California city and county district attorneys.
They charged that all 480 California Dollar Tree stores and distribution centers improperly handled and disposed of ignitable, corrosive, and toxic materials in store trash bins.
Dollar Tree Inc. does not admit or deny any wrongdoing but has changed its policies.
Forty-eight city and county district attorneys filed the suit.
San Joaquin County will receive about $250,000 and Yolo County will receive about $160,000 as part of the settlement.
CVS Pharmacy and Rite Aid combined have paid nearly $26 million to settle similar lawsuits against them.
