7 A.M. Thousands of spectators gathered in Downtown Sacramento Sunday for the start of the "Amgen Tour of California" bicycle race. Stage Two of the race is today.
It starts in Nevada City, where Capital Public Radio's Bob Moffitt joins us live.
6:30 A.M. The first weekend of the Amgen Tour of California is in the books. The women raced for three days, while the men started their race Sunday in Downtown Sacramento. Among the thousands of spectators who turned out Sunday was Jim Jansen.
"I just live around the corner and I'm a real bike advocate," says Jansen. "This is like right up my alley. I ride every day at least 15-to-20 miles to my gym."
Stage 2 of the men's race takes place Monday morning. It starts in Nevada City and ends in Lodi. The women will take four days off and complete their tour Friday at Big Bear Lake in Southern California.
Mark Cavendish of England leads the men's tour after day one. Leah Kirchmann of Canada leads the women's race.
6 A.M. Stage Two of the Amgen Tour of California bicycle race starts Monday in Nevada City.
The Stage 2 race will begin at 11 a.m. in Nevada City and will end in Lodi at approximately 3:51 p.m. The 120.4-mile route will go through the historic Nevada City Classic course, Grass Valley to Rattlesnake and Dog Bar roads. Riders will also head to Auburn and over the Auburn-Foresthill Bridge and head south to Lodi.
