(AP) - The authors of a bill aimed at boosting California school immunization rates have cut a reporting requirement in the bill to fast-track their proposal and avoid another contentious hearing.
Democratic Sens. Richard Pan and Ben Allen said Monday that they have amended their bill to remove a requirement for schools to notify parents of immunization rates. Doing so allows SB277 to bypass the Senate Appropriations Committee.
The full Senate could vote as early as this week.
Pan, a Sacramento pediatrician, says they made the change to keep the bill's focus on eliminating religious and personal belief exemptions. Allen says the measles outbreak at Disneyland revealed low immunization rates in pockets of the state.
Opponents have flooded the Capitol for recent hearings and have criticized the legislative process.
