There are a thousand people whose job it is to follow the Amgen Tour of California riders across the state. And then, there's two guys who do it for fun.
Every year the Melnarik Brothers pack up a weeks worth of clothes, a cowbell and a map and chart a course from Fremont to Stage One of the Amgen Tour.
"We follow it all the way down to southern California. We take the whole week off "We're kind of bike-race gypsies."
That's Myron.
"We'll just watch em each day and head down the coast and get to see em a couple times a day typically."
And that's Chet.
Their biggest challenge? On Monday, it was trying to figure out how to get to a spot where they could see the riders mid-race.
"We're plotting. We're gonna go check the map and see if we can catch em one more time."
As for the question of why? Myron says, he got hooked with the very first tour.
"I've been following it since ten years ago. I'm a bike-racing fan. So, we make a vacation out of it."
The tour ends Sunday in Pasadena.
