Governor Jerry Brown got a round of applause when he reminded the board that his budget proposal gives the system a billion dollars more than it got last year.
Brown called community colleges the "workhorse" of employment training and access to higher education. But he says he’s also counting on the two-year schools to "shake up the educational establishment."
"I would see classes that are taught at San Francisco City College, Cal State Hayward and UC Berkeley," he says."I don’t see why the same course couldn’t be available."
The community college system recently approved a pilot program to offer bachelor’s degrees at several campuses throughout the state.
