Original Post 9 a.m.: The Sacramento Ballet has laid off its dancers and canceled its popular "Beer and Ballet" performances.
Sacramento Ballet Board President Nancy Garton says the dancers are being laid off about three weeks before their seasonal contracts run out.
She says the move was necessary to continue to be financially responsible and noted that the organization managed to make it through its regular subscription season.
Some of the dancers have formed another dance group that will perform at the end of the month at the Crest Theater.
