There are reports Thursday morning that Stanford University is among numerous laboratories that mistakenly received live anthrax spores, instead of dead spores.
NBC Bay Area reports the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will investigate what the Pentagon has called an inadvertent shipment of live anthrax. In addition to Stanford University, reports say fourteen private labs and four military labs in nine states and one overseas received the anthrax samples.
Military spokespersons said at this time they do not suspect any risk to the public. The samples were shipped from an Army facility in Utah through a commercial delivery service.
The CDC is collecting all the Anthrax samples from the facilities.
