The Altamont Commuter Express, or ACE, has launched a new service this week for its riders who travel from Stockton to Santa Clara.
ACE has almost 5,000 commuters per day with four round-trip trains. The trains aren't always on time, but now riders can text to find out the arrival time at any of the 10 ACE stations.
"You just hit send, and within several seconds, you'll get a text message alert," says Erroll Schmall, a spokesman for ACE.
Schmall says passengers can choose what information comes on the text.
"You can text the train directly and receive just the estimated time or you can sign up to receive text alerts and we'll actually send you descriptions about of exactly what's going on with that train."
Schmall says the service will also be available for 49ers fans who will take ACE to the seven home games in Santa Clara.
