Triple-digit heat continues Wednesday in the Sacramento region.
State officials have called a Flex Alert for Sacramento and the Central Valley.
A Flex Alert means energy demand is expected to increase as more people use air conditioners and fans.
People are requested to set the AC to 78 degrees and put off using major appliances until after 6 p.m.
Energy demand is expected to peak between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., with the maximum demand at about 6 p.m.
Several cooling centers will open so that people without shelter can beat the heat. The cooling center locations include: Trinity Episcopal Cathedral; the nonprofit E-49 Corporation; Salvation Army; Saint Mark's United Methodist Church; and the Rancho Cordova City Hall.
