The Fourth of July may be fun for you and your family, but it can be scary for your pets. Kim Nava is with Sacramento County. She says animals don’t understand fireworks and can often run off if they get startled.
"Please keep your pets inside even if they’re normally outdoor pets,’ she says. “Pets that normally don’t escape the yard may do so if they’re truly afraid, which they are when they hear the fireworks noise.”
Nava says the county is offering free redemption of lost animals through July 8. But she says it’s important to keep pet identification tags updated because that allows county workers to return a lost animal to its home instead of taking it to a shelter.
