Caltrans has this warning for people driving on Interstate 80 in North Sacramento late tonight and early tomorrow morning.
"Try to stay away from the eastbound side,” says Caltrans’ Dennis Keaton. “We are expecting heavy traffic."
The reason Caltrans is expecting heavy traffic on eastbound I-80 is because of overnight roadwork stretching from the Sacramento River to Watt Avenue.
Keaton says lane restrictions will be in effect and several freeway exits will be closed, including the Northgate Boulevard, Norwood Avenue, Raley Boulevard and Winters Street offramps.
"We're going to direct folks to take the Longview exit,” explains Keaton, “basically do a U-turn onto westbound 80 to go backwards and try to gain access to those other ramps."
The offramp closures will start tonight from 11 pm through 9 am Saturday. The construction is part of the $133 million 80 Across the Top project, intended to improve traffic flow by adding carpool and auxiliary lanes and repaving the highway.
