(AP) - San Francisco's main route to the Golden Gate Bridge has reopened after three days of closure.
Doyle Drive reopened Sunday night, about eight hours ahead of schedule and the Monday morning commute.
The 1.6-mile route now goes by a new name - Presidio Parkway - following extensive road work that includes demolishing pieces of temporary road and pouring new concrete. During the extended weekend closure motorists approaching the bridge from the south had to use Highway 1.
The new route that connect the city's Marina district to the bridge includes two sets of tunnels and a high viaduct climbing above the Presidio en route to the bridge.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports the $1.1 billion project took 15 years of planning.
