(AP) - Authorities in Northern California are working to recover the body of a man they say drowned near the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers.
The Sacramento Bee reports the victim is a 24-year-old man who officials believe drowned Sunday after entering the water on the Sacramento River side of Tiscornia Beach. Tiscornia Beach is a popular area for people seeking access to water on hot days.
Sacramento Fire Department spokesman Chris Harvey says Sunday's drowning is the fifth in the area in the last three weeks.
Harvey says that emergency personnel worked for about 80 minutes in an attempt to rescue the missing man but that they have switched from rescue to recovery mode.
Harvey says it could take two or three days to find the body.
