The California Fish and Game Commission has voted to ban bobcat trapping throughout California. More than 25,000 comments supporting the ban were submitted to the Commission. In addition, several Democratic state lawmakers sent a letter to the Commission voicing their support for the ban.
But there was also opposition. Several Republican lawmakers urged the Commission to hold off on any action until the state completes a bobcat population survey that was requested by Governor Jerry Brown in 2013.
Licensed bobcat hunting will still be allowed under the new rules.
