(AP) - The U.S. Forest Service and several fire agencies will honor a U.S. Forest Service firefighter killed by a tree while battling a California blaze.
The U.S. Forest Service says firefighters on Thursday will escort the body of 21-year-old Michael Hallenbeck from South Lake Tahoe to his final resting place in Placerville.
Hallenbeck of Shingle Springs, Calif. was hit Saturday during the initial attack on a fire that broke out south of the Echo Summit mountain pass.
The Forest Service says the procession will start in South Lake Tahoe and proceed westbound on Highway 50 up Echo Summit through Sierra at Tahoe Resort to Placerville.
It will pass under American flags suspended from two ladder trucks and fire equipment will be stationed along Highway 50 overpasses in Placerville.
