East of Sacramento, the Butte Fire has destroyed 135 homes in the foothills of Amador and Calaveras Counties. That fire has spread dramatically since it started Wednesday. Clear skies allowed firefighters to make progress on the blaze from the air with helicopters and air tankers.
The Butte Fire's burned 71,063 acres and is 30 percent contained. Several thousand residents have been evacuated. With all these fires raging across the state in the middle of a historic drought, one question that's popped up is: "Should we worry about having enough water to put out the fires?"
