7:55 p.m. - Firefighters continue to make progress on the Butte Fire, as containment has inched forward to 63 percent on Friday. Acreage burned is holding at 70,760, according to Cal Fire.
9:30 a.m. - Containment on the Butte Fire in Amador and Calaveras counties has grown to 60 percent. Areas that have been repopulated are still under evacuation advisory.
Firefighters are working to extend containment to the Butte Fire before the weekend brings hotter weather.
The cooler and wetter weather allowed crews to gain some progress on the blaze.
The Butte Fire has burned 70,760 acres. Two people have died and more than 360 homes have been destroyed.
