The Butte Fire destroyed 475 homes in Calaveras and Amador counties. Many families who lost homes are having a hard time finding new places to live.
Realtors in Calaveras and Amador Counties are working together to find housing for families displaced by the fire.
Realtor Jean Fox in Calaveras County says many people have been forced to rent far from their homes and outside of the county.
"I've dug up five rentals this past week, I normally have 165 , I picked up five more to help place people but everything was full when the fire hit and I'm struggling finding places," says Jean Fox.
Fox says landlords do not appear to be raising their rents and most are trying to help neighbors in need.
She says there is an ample supply of homes for sale but she estimates that perhaps as many as 70 percent of those who lost homes had no insurance and would be unable to buy.
