Native American Bones Unearthed In West Sacramento

(AP) - Police say two human skulls and other bones unearthed at a West Sacramento construction site have been confirmed to be American Indian remains.

The Sacramento Bee reports that house construction crews found a skull Tuesday morning while digging with heavy equipment.

West Sacramento Police Sgt. Roger Kinney says the remains could be part of an American Indian burial mound and were turned over to the state Native American Heritage Commission after being confirmed as of American Indian decent.

The commission has oversight of burial and historic sights.

Kinney says the area is not going to be a crime scene. He says work at the site has stopped for an unknown amount of time.
