Rainbow Crosswalk Brightens Up Lavender Heights Friday, October 9, 2015 | Sacramento, CA Andrew Nixon / Capital Public Radio The Intersection of 20th and K Streets in Midtown Sacramento became a little more colorful this week with the installation of a rainbow crosswalk. The crosswalk project was sponsored by the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber Foundation, a nonprofit affiliate of the Rainbow Chamber of Commerce, an LGBT business group. “The Lavender Heights area has been a part of the Sacramento community since the mid-’70s, and it is well overdue to have it officially named, as a welcoming community of Sacramento,” Rainbow Chamber President Paul Weubbe said in a press release. “In addition to creating an attraction for local business and boosting tourism, a designated Lavender Heights district is a way of sharing the history and culture of Sacramento’s LGBT community with future generations, a key mission of the Rainbow Chamber Foundation.” The project costs around $35,000 total and was completed earlier this week.
