UC Davis Chancellor Emeritus Larry Vanderhoef died Thursday of complications from a series of strokes. He was 74.
Vanderhoef led UC Davis for 25 years: as provost/executive vice chancellor from 1984-to-1994 and then as chancellor from 1994-to-2009.
UC Davis says under his leadership, the university experienced growth in admissions, faculty, rankings and facilities.
“Our university has lost a beloved leader, one who gave a quarter-century of his life and more to UC Davis,” said Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi in a press release. “He built a strong foundation for our university’s service to the state, nation and world.”
