(AP) - According to a Department of Education and California State University assessment program, only 2 percent of Fresno Unified School District students are considered college ready.
The Fresno Bee reports that Early Assessment Program data from the 2014-15 school year found that about 98 percent of Fresno Unified students will need remedial courses in college.
The assessment program tests 11th-graders in English and math to determine if they are ready for college-level courses.
Fresno Unified officials say the low number is skewed because it is the first year the Common Core standards are a factor in the assessment. They also say the Early Assessment Program indicator is only one of several that determine if a student is prepared for college.
