Calaveras County is reporting the death of Sheriff Gary Kuntz.
The Calaveras County office of Sheriff released this statement earlier Friday: "It is with sad hearts that the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office reports the untimely passing of Sheriff Gary Kuntz. On October 29 at approximately 9:21 p.m., Sheriff Kuntz passed. Sheriff’s Office staff offer our sincere condolences to Sheriff Kuntz’s family."
No further details have been released.
The Calaveras Enterprise reports, "Kuntz was elected on a platform of community policing in reestablishing the Resident Deputy Program. Among the highlights of his career include the revitalization of the sheriff’s volunteers group, fostering the resident deputy program, the construction of a substation in Valley Springs, and the completion of the Calaveras County Jail in April of last year, all in spite of financial constraints."
