Covered California is reassuring consumers they will have health insurance through 2016 if they enroll in United Healthcare plan. United warned yesterday it may pull out of Obamacare because it’s losing money.
Peter Lee is Executive Director of Covered California, the state’s health insurance exchange.
"We’ve spoken to leadership at United to first and foremost confirm that they are absolutely committed to the areas that they are going to be serving in 2016," Lee says. "We have just begun open enrollment and we want to make sure that anyone who is looking at them as an option can look at them with total confidence that they are going to be in with us for all of 2016."
Lee could not say whether United would offer coverage on the exchange in 2017. But he says he cannot be certain whether any health plan will continue its coverage that far out.
