(AP) - Merced County's district attorney has concluded that police were justified in the shooting death of an 18-year-old student who went on a stabbing spree at a central California university last month, injuring four.
Authorities say that Faisal Mohammad burst into a classroom at the University of California, Merced on Nov. 4 and slashed fellow students over a dispute about a study group.
According to a review by District Attorney Larry D. Morse II, two police officers pursued Mohammad. He stopped and turn toward them, with his knife. They yelled at him to get on the ground and to put the knife down, according to the review.
Instead, the suspect lunged at one of the officers, Olaf Lopez, with the knife. Lopez shot him twice. Mohammad was declared dead at the scene.
