Hundreds of people marched in Sacramento and around the state today calling for a 10 percent funding increase for programs that support the developmentally disabled. Advocate Jacquie Dillard-Foss says some programs haven’t had an increase for 15 years.
"We are losing day programs, we’re losing groups homes," she says. "I’ve done supportive living since 1994. I stopped taking referrals six months ago because I can’t afford too."
The legislature is supposed to be considering additional money for the developmentally disabled in an ongoing special legislative session on healthcare. But so far nothing has come out of it.
Governor Jerry Brown’s Department of Finance says Brown is hopeful work can resume on a funding increase when the Legislature reconvenes in January.
