UPDATE: The Roseville Police Department Explosive Disposal Unit has determined that the suspicious packages found Thursday were empty. City buildings have reopened.
ORIGINAL: Sections of downtown Roseville are shut down Thursday while police investigate three suspicious packages near Vernon Street. The area has been cleared and city employees are sheltering in place.
Roseville Police Public Information Officer Dee Dee Gunther says police received a call from an observant City Hall employee about a new package under the city Christmas tree.
The police responded quickly and cordoned off the area. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit is currently investigating the package along with two other packages found in the post office.
The Roseville Civic Center and post office are closed along with the 300 Block of Vernon Street.
"We hope we'll be able to wrap it up pretty soon," says Gunther.
