(AP) - Police in the Northern California city of Redding, where the bodies of a boy and a girl were found inside a storage unit, say the children died somewhere else and that police in Salinas, where the children once lived, will lead the investigation.
Redding police said late Wednesday that detectives determined during the investigation the children's death occurred outside Shasta County. The police gave no other details.
The Redding and Salinas police departments did not immediately return calls seeking comment.
Officials say the Redding Police Department and the Shasta County District Attorney's Office will continue to assist with the investigation.
A 39-year-old woman and her 17-year-old companion are suspected in the deaths.
