If you're driving in Roseville this week, and get stopped by a motorcycle cop, you may be getting - a gift.
Rob Baquera with the Roseville Police Department says officers are looking for people with vehicle code violations.
"Maybe a tail light out or a broken window," says Baquera. "And upon their discretion, if they feel like that family or that person would benefit from a little boost to help them through the holiday season, they can give them a $50 gift card."
Officers will be giving away 20 Walmart and Target gift cards.
Baquera says gift cards are the department's way of celebrating the return of its motor unit devoted to traffic patrols. Low-staffing put the unit out of commission for the past six months.
"The motors unit is back to Roseville," says Baquera. "We thought that it would be great for them (officers), while they're out doing their normal function of being a motor officer out in Roseville, that they look for people in need."
The $1,000 to pay for the gift cards comes from the Police Charitable Foundation and the Rotary Club of Roseville.
