Even Santa apparently needs permission from California regulators to bring his reindeer into the state.
California’s state veterinarian has granted a 24-hour-permit clearing all brand inspection and health requirements for the nine reindeer on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
Regulators say a “rotund, jolly man” in a red suit and white beard filed the paperwork in person – and signed his name “K. Kringle.”
“We consider it an honor to issue this permit to Mr. Kringle and do our part to ensure another successful trip,” says CDFA Secretary Karen Ross. “As he was filling out the permit form, we put in a polite request for a few extra snow storms to help our farmers and ranchers with the drought. We wished him safe travels and plenty of milk and cookies as he and his reindeer make deliveries to the good children of California.”
The nine reindeer named on the permit are: Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen and Rudolph.
